Each week we intend to feature an adoptable dog and to start with we are going to feature Blaze!
Name: Blaze
Racing name: Able to Blaze
Weight: 79 pounds
Color: Brindle
Born: March 27th, 2004
Blaze is living proof that bigger is better! Although he's a big boy at 79 pounds he is a total sweetheart. He is making great strides with his leash manners and loves cookies. In fact, such is his love for cookies that we have taught him to sit for them and when he even thinks that a cookie may be imminent he sits, just to ensure that if there is a cookie available that the cookie goes straight into his mouth. When introduced to cats Blaze showed interest but we were able to correct him so we believe that he can live with small animals. Children don't seem to bother him but because of his size he would probably do best with children over 8 years of age. It would be easy to get knocked over or squished (just a little bit) if Blaze were to get excited.
Just to prove we're not boasting, pictorial evidence of the sitting is below!
P.S. Blaze also has a sister available for adoption, her name is Daisy.

November's Greyhound Walking Club
It's not as though greyhound owners really need an excuse to get together but the monthly Greyhound Walking Club is the largest regular gathering of greyhounds in the Portland metro area. This is not a group-specific event, all greyhound owners are welcome to participate and for those of us who are active in adoption groups it provides a wonderful opportunity to see our old friends. They greyhound like it too, they get to see past acquaintances and, after a whiff of posterior, make some new ones too!
Before the walk participants are asked to sign in, greys born in that month are honored with a cookie and a birthday roo (as Dusty is so ably demonstrating), and we set off for about an hour-long walk. The venue changes with each month and November's walk was in Portland's Pearl district.

A boy's best friend is his cat?
And the last of the cat-testing for the week.
Steve test cat tolerant with a little reservation. He has a lot of puppy energy and is very playful but doesn't understand that the cats are not appropriate playmates. His interest is persistent so if he is going to live with cats he MUST go to an approved home with a lot of dog experience.
Rally tested incompatible with small animals.

Brave kitties
Our brave cats deserve a lot of credit. Raised since kittens around the greyhounds they have no fear of them so even when they appear to be tasty morsels they don't provoke the dogs by running. Unfortunately, it would be nice if they would occasionally put a dog in its place so they would learn to respect the cats, but I suppose that you can't have everything. Thanks kitties!

More of our buddies go home!
Last weekend was the final one we had to spend with our friend Power. He has gone to a fantastic home where he will have two boys with whom to romp and play!
We also want to take this opportunity to congratulate Toby on his new home. He is joining Tux and Dusty who are pictured below. We know that he will enjoy having playmates and are grateful that he will get to spend the holidays in his forever home!
